The Veterans Mud Run will allow our communities to come together for a great cause as we celebrate our veteran’s commitment to service and raise funds for the Veterans Home residents.

The races start and finish at South Shores Park located on the south side of Mission Bay, just east of Sea World. The swim is in a protected cove at South Shores Park Triathletes start and finish at the boat launch ramp completing a 1/4 mile U-shaped course. Duathletes complete an out-and-back 1 mile run within the park. All athletes bike around Fiesta Island on a double loop, at 9 mile course. The final 2 loop 3 mile run will be on walkways and an off-road dirt trail.

2012 Race Features

The 2012 race features chip timing and a post-race party with refreshments, beer garden, live entertainment and an awards ceremony. ALL PARTICIPANTS WILL RECEIVE A TECHNICAL T-SHIRT, FINISHER PIN AND “VIRTUAL GOODIE BAG”. Awards to the top 3 finishers in each category for the Sprint and Duathlon. Awards to the 1st place finisher in each category for the Mini Sprint. Points for the San Diego Triathlon Series to the top 10 individual finishers in each category.

The challenging and unique courses will take you out on the Lake Poway Trail through the foothills around the lake near Blue Sky Ecological Reserve. The 5K is designed to let you pick your pace. Enjoy it as an elite trail runner, as a challenging family run or simply a gorgeous morning nature hike. The 10K adds to this course a grueling out-and-back (or up-and-down if we’re being honest) into Blue Sky and a quad-burning +10% climb to the Ramona Dam. Take our advice and start training now!

The Kathy Young Memorial Kids Race
The Kathy Young Memorial Kids Race kicks off with a warm-up 15 minutes before the race starts and is perfect for kids 7 and under who aren’t ready to tackle the 5K and the mini-runners who want the fun without the competition! The approximately 1/3-mile course follows a trail on the near-side of Lake Poway and finishes in the same spot as the 10K and 5K so even the kids enjoy all the fun and festivity of the main finish line. Parents are invited to chaperone their children in this race.
